Monaco Grand Prix: Leclerc leads Verstappen and Hamilton in final practice

All-important qualifying looms at the Circuit de Monaco

The Monaco Grand Prix is set to host the most exciting Qualifying session of the Formula 1 season.

Charles Leclerc led the way for Ferrari in final practice for the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday, ahead of reigning world champion Max Verstappen and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Leclerc set a best lap of 1:11.311 on the soft tires, with Verstappen just 0.045 seconds behind on the same compound. Hamilton was a further 0.054 seconds adrift in third.

The top three were closely matched throughout the session, with all three drivers setting their best laps in the final few minutes. Leclerc's time was ultimately the fastest, but Verstappen and Hamilton will be confident of challenging for pole position in qualifying later today.

The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most iconic races on the Formula 1 calendar, and qualifying is always a thrilling affair. The narrow streets of the principality provide little room for error, and drivers must take risks to set a quick lap time. The line between risk and reward is thinner than ever in Monaco, and the slightest mistake can cost a driver a place on the grid.

Qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix will take place later today, and it is sure to be a close and exciting battle. Leclerc, Verstappen, and Hamilton are all in contention for pole position, and it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top.
