Jasper Fire Department Battles Wildfire, Protects Jasper Park Lodge

Swift Response to Transfer Station Blaze

The Jasper Fire Department, led by Fire Chief Mathew Conte and Deputy Fire Chief Don Smith, is actively responding to a wildfire approximately 9 km northeast of the Jasper townsite. The blaze is currently located around the transfer station and is being combatted by Parks Canada fire crews and the Jasper Fire Department.

Jasper Park Lodge Impacted

The iconic Jasper Park Lodge resort, situated across the Athabasca River from the townsite, has confirmed that the fire has reached its grounds and caused damage. The Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade is also assisting in firefighting and rescue operations.

Wildfire Threat on Multiple Fronts

In addition to the fire near the transfer station, another blaze is approximately 12 kilometres south of Jasper on both sides of the river. Alberta's Minister of Forestry, Mike Ellis, has expressed concern that wind may worsen the situation.

Community Support for Firefighters

The Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade has garnered over 1600 likes on Facebook, indicating the community's appreciation for their selfless service. The brigade provides essential firefighting and rescue services to the Jasper area.
