Overrunning roadworks are causing severe delays on the A12 southbound this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 7am following reports of a collision.

The road is currently closed between junctions 12 and 11, and traffic is queuing for several miles.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

The roadworks were originally scheduled to be completed by 6am, but have now overran.

It is not yet known when the road will be fully reopened.

Highways England has apologised for the delays and said it is working to get the road open as soon as possible.

In a statement, Highways England said: "We would like to apologise for the delays on the A12 southbound this morning.

"Our contractors are working to get the road open as soon as possible.

"In the meantime, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes."
